Xview apps crash in opensuse 11.4 (xcb_io.c)

Hi, I'm running some old xview apps. They were ok in suse 10.1. They failed in 10.2 and 10.3. They were ok in 11.0 and 11.1 and fail again in 11.2 thru 11.4. The apps fail at the start of execution with:
xcb_io.c:462:_XAllocID: Assertion 'ret !=inval_id' failed.
I saw a ref to 10.3 that said it was fixed [in the 11.0 release], because the issue was changed from a "fail" to a "warning". Are there any workarounds or other distributions that don't fail?
