Xubuntu boots slowly

My Xubuntu feisty is booting very slowly, and although my computer is old I belive it should boot faster.

I have a 400MhZ, 128MB RAM computer, and the boot takes 1,5 minutes from GRUB to login. Another worrying thing is that the freshly installed Xubuntu takes 3GB on my drive (I think it was supposed to be 1,5 GB).

I have installed bootchart to see if anything is wrong, but cannot see anything weird (though I dont know really what to look for).

Any idea of how to improve ther boot speed and why so much of the harddrive is occupied?

None of that sounds unusual to me. *buntu is just a big and slow distribution. If you want something that is light and fast, you should be looking towards distributions like Slackware or straight-Debian.

really? I though I had done some research before choosing xubuntu as my distro. It was supposed to be a very fast and light distribution of quality. But it isnt you suggest?

It is fast compared to a full Ubuntu install, certainly. But it is far, far, from the fastest or lightest distribution you can run. It isn't even in the same league as distributions like Damn Small Linux, Puppy, etc.
