Xsession:warning:unable to write /tmp;X session may exit with an error

when i try to login this is the error message i received...After googling about it i found the solution by entering the console.. but the problem is when i type (ctrl+alt+f1) i am getting a black screen only...and just a cursor blinking..nothing else..ctrl+ait+f1-f6 give me the same result..and when i try (ctrl+alt+f7) it goes back to the screen with the error....

Thanking you
Harif..

It looks like you have run out of space in the partition containing the /tmp directory or you have incorrect permissions set for the tmp directory. Post the results of these two commands.
Code:
df
ls -l /
You or one of us will then be able to see what the problem is.
ciao,
jdk

@ Harif,

it is also a good idea when posting a problem, to let us know what Linux you are using, and/or add that information to your profile so we can see some information in the side-bar on the left.. Some problems are addressed differently on different OS's.

Thanks - looking forward to seeing the info provided in reply to jdkaye's post above.
