xserver crashes - apparent pointer problem

I have removed a significant amount of text inorder to fit in the the required 25000 character space.

It appears that my X server will not start because my pointer is not setup in the default location of /dev/mouse. This is my first foray into the Linux world, so if my post is blatantly stupid, please forgive me.

I am wondering if it is possible to install the mouse in the default location of /dev/mouse. If so, how to I do this? can someone direct me to a tutorial on this.

I am able to play lrbreakout which is a graphical, mouse based game. I would think that this would mean that I would be able to start the x server. If nothing else it means that all of the hardware is good.

I have the same problem. The only way I got around it is to run sax2, let it configure stuff, click on the OK after it is done, killall kdm or gdm (which ever you are running) and then run either kdm or gdm again. It fixes the problem for that boot, but once you reboot the computer you have to do it all over again... I havent found a complete fix for it yet
