XScreenSaver - Phosphor - As a news feed?

Hi all,

What better to do with my computer than download all of the xScreenSavers?

Phosphor is an interesting one. I've seen interviews and all types of things pertaining to Debain. As I understand, Phosphor is simply reading files on my computer.

I wonder, how up to date are these? Are they updated automatically? Am I reading things, thinking they are new, when really they are 5+ years old?

Thanks.

In Xscreensaver-demo, clicked the "Advanced" tab. In the bottom left, there is a dialog in which you can select the text file to be read by screensavers that do that, such as Phosphor and Star Wars.

One of the selections allows you to point it to a URL.

Try changing the URL to something that you can check for currency or pasting the current URL in your browser and seeing what happens. I'd be interested to know.

~When you think you're smart because you can delete files less than an hour old, don't hit enter too fast~

Had to do a little re-install today, but such is the newb's life...

Phosphorus pointed to a url by default on my computer, so perhaps the text it was reading is up to date. I changed the url to a forum, and did get the most recent post. Phosphorus was reading displaying text only as well (not html code).

I did the same thing today because of your post! I pointed Phosphor at the LQ feed, in fact. It does seem to be current.

Edit: As regards reinstall, the day back in April 2005 when I first installed Slackware, I ended up installing it three times before I was happy with myself. I found that reading comprehension does indeed have its place.

Btw, the default page is: http://planet.debian.org/rss20.xml

The text does seem quite recent too! The date at the bottom is Nov 3rd 2011, but there even later dates in there as well (the page is a little tough to read all at once).
