Xorg drivers for GMA500 ?

My laptop has an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 500 (aka GMA500) graphics chipset. It seems that the latter is not directly supported by xorg due to nonfree drivers.

Any advice on installing proprietary drivers? at the moment, the graphics are really slow on my machine.

TIA.

More info. Distro, kernel, driver(s) ?.
Current (very current) kernels have reasonable 2-D support in-kernel. The poulsbo driver is now deprecated.

Haven't looked in a couple of months, but my good lady has a netbook with that crap in it. I'll have to go look ...

Thanks the reply.

I'm using the current debian stable.

I haven't yet checked what xorg is running, but it's currently way too slow.

Update: I've check the xorg.var log on the laptop, and as far as I can tell, only "vesa" module is loaded, which probably explains the sluggish performance.

However man intel doesn't say the intel module supports the GMA500. :-(
