xmms says cant find glib, and wont install, but i have it !
Hi,
I am new to linux, i tried my hands on fc 6 with gnome, and hear that xmms is real good at playin mp3s, i get it and do ./configure. Then it tells me i need the GLIB, i download both GLIB and GTK and install them, still the same problem,.....i check out some forums and docs and find these are supposed to be there in any good distro.,...so what now says i ? i have seen solutions to use yum , but i dont have a net connection and so cant use that,.....if any of you could help me in any other way,...will be really greatfull. I have a feeling that it has something to do with exporting the library o something,....with the export path or sometjing like that,...but please do explain as i dont know how these work.....cheers.... |
You probably just need to install the devel versions of those missing packages.
|
Sorry about that,...new to this,...will remember from now on
|
I have the dev packages installed, they come with fc6, i reinstalled Fedora and this time absolutely made sure that the Devel packages do get installed and they did, yet i get the same error message,....no matter what i try,....dont have net so cant get YUM to do it for me either, please help....!!!

Could you possibly post the output it gives when you try to install it? Sometimes you think its complaining about one thing and it is really more concerned with something a couple lines up. That and we could probably help you better if we knew more of what was going on.
|
Will do,....i will post the output,....today will not be possible,... many thanks for watching out, you are much appreciated. I will be back with the outputs.

*** The glib-config script installed by GLIB could not be found *** If GLIB was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in *** your path, or set the GLIB_CONFIG environment variable to the *** full path to glib-config. You snapshot says, that you don't have glib version higher than 1.2.2. And i could see glib-config doesn't exist, if you have one then set in the path to GLIB_CONFIG export GLIB_CONFIG=/path/to/glib-confg. Else you can try installing rpm (have look at Installing xmms music player on Fedora ) |
Why not just use "yum install xmms"?
