XMMS, Mandrake 10.0

Hi guys, I'm a relative newb to linux, I ran redhat freshman year of college and that was a long time ago, so I've basically forgotten everything.

I've just been getting sick of windows lately and decided to run linux, I sitll have my win2k partitions tho for gaming, everything else i prefer to do in linux.

Anyway to my question, I have weird problems when I try to do sound related things such as play mp3s using xmms as my default user login. However when I'm in root, xmms plays fine. So what I did was go in as my default user, and i ran xmms as su and it worked...how can i get xmms to work for my default user without having to set myself as su? I'm thinkin this may have to do with some file permissions, I just dont know which files...Also I cannot get audio to work with totem movie player.

The problem with the movie player I have both in kde and gnome, default user and root. The xmms problem seems to be ok if i'm logged in as root or if i su and run xmms...I've searched teh forums and couldn't find an answer to my particular problem...any help much appreciated.

Im not sure if this is gonna help you, but in Debian I always have to add users to certain groups ( audio, video etc..) before I am able to use them proparly. There should be some way in Mandrake to do the same (never worked with it tho).
