xmms install/dependancy problems

I'm in the process of installing xmms from a .tar.gz on my mandrake 9.2 box. i unpacked, ran ./configure and got the following output:

*** The glib-config script installed by GLIB could not be found
*** If GLIB was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in
*** your path, or set the GLIB_CONFIG environment variable to the
*** full path to glib-config.
configure: error: *** GLIB >= 1.2.2 not installed - please instal l first ***

how can i tell if glib is already installed on my computer or if i need to download. if it is installed, then how can i let xmms know that so that i can continue with the xmms install? feel free to be as verbose as you want cuz i'm still a noob...thanks for the help.

Might I suggest a binary install? Unless there's some reason you have to install from source. You urmpi to install xmms and it will resolve dependencies as well.
