I have read around and can't seen to find the problem here. i see alot of people complaining about it. truth is i don't even know how to open the log files in linux. this is my first time. but ne way heres how it reads

also I Have a Dell Demention 2400 with the standard 17 inch monitor.(full monitor) and i have 2 Video Cards ones a Nivdia MX series and the other is an onboard Intel Videocard. I been using windows for about 13 years now, I wanna get into Linux any chance of someone helping me out. I would be very Greatful.

well I had the same problem.... I fixed the problem by updating the system, under the recovery mode in ubuntu.
just do the following

$ apt-get update
$ apt-get upgrade
$ startx

if the xserver package is damaged which was the problem in my case its going to download a new one and set it up automatically although i think the screen is not as clear as before but at least I can burn my files on dvds...
cheers.
