Xine player: can't play movies requiring DivX5 codecs

Hi everybody,

I'm new to Linux (SuSE 9.1 Professional) but mostly really like it.

Anyway, all the players (Kaffeine, Xine, ..) can't play movies because they require a DivX5 codec. Codec 4 is installed and I did google for it rather extensively, even wrote DivX (of course, they didn't reply except for an auto reply) No luck!

Can anybody please tell me where I can find and download the required DivX5 codec? BTW, in Knoppix 3.4 Xine did work just fine. Is there a way to copy the codec from Knoppix into SuSE? If yes, where on the Knoppix CD is the codec located?

Thanks so much!!

John

I am not so familiar with Xine, perhaps you can give mplayer a try. You may like it :) I remember I was once happy abut Xine but when I found out about mplayer I was even happier.

Hope this helps.

For Koyi (Xine player: can't play movies requiring DivX5 codecs)

Hi Koyi,

Domo arigato for your post and please excuse this very late reply. Besides these codec bugs I seem to have a bunch of gremlins that don't want me to install various software. Even a friend, who's real good around PCs, has been stumped so far. In case he's able to fix the software installation bugs I'll certainly try the media player.

Thanks again!

John
