xine -issue?

Hello, I always try to get this on my own first...but this one has me stumped. I am trying to help my friend install a dvd rom drive. here is his /etc/fstab

/dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hda2 / reiserfs defaults 1 1
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom auto noauto,users,rw 0 0
/dev/hdd /mnt/dvd auto noauto,users,ro 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,owner 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0

the thing is whenever we try to watch a dvd we get the mrl not found...no read write permissions. The nor mal xine error.
Now we can see vob files etc...when we look in /mnt/dvd.
I have compiled libdvdcss 2 or 3 times xine-check returns...

Please be patient, this script may take a while to run...
[ good ] you're using Linux, doing specific tests
[ good ] looks like you have a /proc filesystem mounted.
[ good ] You seem to have a reasonable kernel version (2.4.29)
[ good ] intel compatible processor, checking MTRR support
[ good ] you have MTRR support and there are some ranges set.
[ good ] found the player at /usr/bin/xine
[ good ] /usr/bin/xine is in your PATH

[ good ] plugin directory /usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.0.1 exists.
[ good ] found unknown plugin: xineplug_flac.so
[ good ] found input plugins
[ good ] found demux plugins
[ good ] found decoder plugins
[ good ] found video_out plugins
[ good ] found audio_out plugins
[ good ] skin directory /usr/share/xine/skins exists.
[ good ] found logo in /usr/share/xine/skins
[ good ] I even found some skins.
[ good ] /dev/cdrom points to /dev/hdc
[ good ] /dev/dvd points to /dev/hdc
[ good ] DMA is enabled for your DVD drive
[ good ] found xvinfo: X-Video Extension version 2.2
[ good ] your Xv extension supports YV12 overlays (improves MPEG performance)
[ good ] your Xv extension supports YUY2 overlays
[ good ] Xv ports: YUY2 YV12 UYVY I420 YUY2 YV12 UYVY I420 YUY2 YV12 UYVY I420

should /dev/hdd point to /dev/hdc?
Just stumped really, all help appreciated.

If you haven't already, check out: http://xinehq.de/index.php/faq#AEN209
That walked me through enough that I could get it working. I had made the mistake of mounting the dvd drive. Once I got it setup in the way they outlined, I didn't need root permissions or anything to view dvds.

yeh been there....
ls -al /dev/dv*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 8 2005-08-03 10:01 /dev/dvd -> /dev/hdc
any other ideas....I should also state it is a default slack 10 install.

Any help?

Well, I ran through that site, and that ended up getting dvd playback working for me. I did have to change an option or two through the xine settings GUI, just to point to my dvd drive. But nothing else comes to mind, so I'm not really sure what the problem could be. Sorry I can't be more help :(
