xhost

what does this usually mean?

i first typed in hostname

which responded with resnet-172

next i typed in xhost resnet-172

it responded with

Xlib: connection to "0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key
xhost: unable to open display ":0.0"

how can i remedy this situation?

What situation?

You didn't even mention what you're trying
to achieve by running xhost? :)

Obviously I can't speak for you (or him, for
that matter) ... but if I "discover" a tool on my
machine that I don't know anything about I'll
try a man/info <tool> before I start using it ;)

Cheers,
Tink
