XFree86, X.org : What's the differences?

On hearing that many major linux distributions are switching from XFree86 to X.org . Being a newbie Linux user I wonder what change or improvement will be gained from this if there is at all. In another word, what's the difference between the two. Is it performance, configurability, speed, stability? Will old graphic drivers still still work?

320mb, are you sure you changed your xorg.conf to use the drivers that your xfree config were using?.

dejavu_01, best bet is to search for xfree and xorg history, I read a good book on Xfree wich had a good section on the history of X Windows System in general (Never refere to X as "X Windows" unless you want your network account terminated or ridiculed in any way).

Linux is to Windows as AMD is to INTEL.
Complete your rebirth and make the switch.
