XFree86 with dual display problem


system is RH9, it worked with RH8 much better.

I have two dissimilar video cards and monitors: Matrox MGA G200 AGP connected to a Nokia 445Pro, and a Matrox MGA 2064W PCI connected to a Nokia 446Xpro, using xinarama extensions and gnome.

Everything works, BUT

if I power the machine down or reboot, if I just run 'startx' then the box hangs (not just X, but the whole thing hangs). I can get it to work fine if I first do "XFree86 -configure", and then ignore the new config file and then just do "startx" and all is well (using my XF86Config file with xinerama and all that).

This is maddening because I KNOW IT WORKS but it won't work "cold". It's like there's some kind of thing that gets probed or initialized with the -configure but does not get setup right when starting X cold.
