When I try to run the command ‘startx’ I’m getting configuration errors. Below the ouput of the last lignes in the Xconfiguration.

(**) option “Protocol “ “ sun“
(EE) Mouse0: Unknown protocol “sun“
(EE) PreInit failed for input device "Mouse0"
(II) UnloadModule: "mouse"
(II) Keyboard "Keyboard0" handled by legacy driver
(WW) No core pointer registered
No core pointer

Fatal server error:
failed to initialize core devices
When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send
The full server output, not just the last messages.
This can be found in the log file " /var/log/Xfree86.0.log".
Please report problems to xfree86@xfree86.org.
Please help I don't know what to do.

What distro are you using? Most recent ones use xorg instead of xfree86.

Aside from that, that error is complaining about the mouse driver. Check to be sure you are using the corect driver.

However, the mouse driver seems to be loading, however it doesn't understand the "sun" protocol. So, my guess is that the protocol is not correct.

AT least, in the man page for the "mouse" driver in Xorg, the "sun" protocol doesn't appear:

http://ftp.x.org/pub/X11R7.0/doc/html/mouse.4.html

There are two options: use the right protocol, or -only if your xorg version is new enough- use the hal/evdev interface instead, so you can forget about the kbd and mouse drivers.

Maybe this config file has been migrated from Xfree to xorg?

However, in the xfree86 equivalent page I can't find "sun" either...
