Xfree86: help needed

Hi,

Do you know the feeling that you're very close to getting sth to work, but some other problems keep you away from the success. That's what I encounter...

I'm trying to setup PHP, Apache, MySQL...all with sucess yesterday evening. When starting up my server this morning, I could not get my graphical user interface (which is a disaster for me).During booting, it complains about parsing the XFree86Config file. Anyone can send me a sample XFree86Config file that I can use on my server? Anyone has an idea why it goes wrong with Xfree86 after installing PHP and MySQL?

Here is the log file, I'm getting:

XFree86 Version 4.2.0 (Red Hat Linux release: 4.2.0-72) / X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600)
Release Date: 23 January 2002
If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is
newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/)

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send
the full server output, not just the last messages.
This can be found in the log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log".
Please report problems to xfree86@xfree86.org.

hmm, rather than getting someone elses config file, make your own by using xf86config.

As long as you know your graphics card, monitor and mouse settings you should be ok to remake it.

Great hint ... After some hassling I managed to make it work again. I used XfConfig tool to make it work.

I still don't know why it was broken in the first place.

Thanks again,

Wim
