xfree/xdm problem
I just installed debian on my computer and have some problems with my video card (ATI Radeon 7500). After googling a bit, I tried the vesa driver instead of the radeon one. X started fine the first time (except for the usb mouse not working), not when xdm starts, it freezes at the login prompt.
I just want to disable xdm to start X automatically when I boot but I don't know what to do. I can't change console because it freezes as soon as I get to the login prompt. Thanks for your help. For yoiur information I run debian 3.0 and Xfree 4.4.0. Michael |
I'd use the debian disk and run the rescue option. Once you're logged in remove xdm with apt-get. You can't start x automatically when you boot if you don't have a login manager, like xdm. You will have to login with the command line and then use startx to run x.
