XFCE not loading in ubuntu 8.10

Hi all,
Good to see you again.
I am facing a small problem. XFCE refuses to load, I only see a blue screen. It is an HP laptop, and when I press the power button, it shows the standard shutdown options.
GNOME, failsafe GNOME, failsafe terminal works fine.
I installed xfce in ubuntu 8.10.

How did you install?
I would suggest to use synaptic, and install everything from xfce

I used synaptic, and this is recent. XFCE was working fine, till day before yesterday.

I used this guide

Thanks.

It is loading in a non Administrative account. This is very weird.

Are you saying it doesn't work when you login as root?
Please don't login as root, it is against every security rule that exist.
Why would you want to do that?
However, try to remove the .xfce directory in your home directory.

No, no, it is not root. What I meant was that it will load for a user for whom I have disabled sudo privileges. I will create another user with administrator privileges.
