.Xdefault Location
 

I'm really new to linux(<2 days). I'd really like to now where the .Xdefualt file is located. I can't seem to get at it.

I've also been surching for .Xdefault on my system and found out that there isn't one. Maybe you should search for .Xresources which (I think) is equivalent (sorry if that's not true). But since both files hold information how some programs like xterm, xclock should act/look ... I simply created my own and searched for avaliable resources in /etc/X11/app-defaults, copied and edited.

it is in your home directory if it is not there just create it with your favorite home directory complete path is if you username is lets say diablo
/home/diablo/.Xdefault

Thanks for all of your help. When I try to create a text file called ".Xdefault" in my home directory, the file disappear. Strange adventures in Linux. Any thoughts?

Not sure, but shouldn't x create the .Xdefault file automaticly when you startup x for the first time with your user...

JCDenton: .filename means it is hidden that's why it is dissapearing when you are creating the file

look at the ls man pages for the appropriate syntax to view hidden files
