Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

XCDRoast does a "writer time out" and ejects the disk after two minutes, trying to Initialize the CD Writer or disk itself.
OS: Lineox RHEL4.026
CDRW: LiteON DVD RW
XCDRoast was included in the SW package, and the OS was freshly installed in my PC.
The XCDRoast SW was automatically installed and configured, and it worked. (Can you believe it?)
XCDRoast ran with no problems. ProDVD plugin was added per manual page along with 2004 key.
Data CDs are read, imaged and written correctly. No problems.
DVDs are read, and imaged, BUT when initiatizing the CDRW drive, the input buffer is read,
and everything stops. After approximately 2 minutes, the disk is automatically ejected and
I receive the "Writer Timed Out" error.
While initializing the CDRW drive, two messages were noted:
1. "inofficial libscg transport code" - unofficial version of RHEL used evidently
2. "faio_wait_on_buffer" - writer timed out
SCSI emulation is used, and "cdrecord -scanbus" results are fine, as also evidenced
by the correctly written data CDs.
This problem is similar to those seen in many other distributions. It seems to have
a common source.
I don't know what direction to proceed. It doesn't seem to be the GUI, nor the key,
and I'm hesitant to re-install XCDRoast from scratch unless I have some hint
that the problem would be corrected. Any suggestions from someone who
has encountered a similar problem? They would be appreciated.
