Xauthority messes up desktop

Hi, I'm using linux 2.6 with gnome 2.6 on a athlon based system..

I was looking on the boards for a way to get root to be able to run X apps, with the Ximian installation being the one in mind... so I came across a little hack of doing a symlink of my root's .Xauthority and overwriting my user /home/xtoforas/.Xauthority file...

Now when I launch gnome 2.6 i've lost all my desktop icons, my wallpaper, and I can't right click on the desktop?

Also, I've noticed that my internet is a bit slower than usual, and two instances of gaim load when gnome starts...

I've tried some of the other little things out there, but some good advice other than rebuilding my reiserfs tree would be helpful...

I see my wallpaper when I go look at it through the desktop preferences, but not when no apps are open..

TIA

X

I think I may have found the problem...

Nautilus doesn't load, its missing a file...

I upgraded the package which contains the file now however nautlius isn't looking for the new version of the library...

anyone have any ideas?

bash-2.05b$ nautilus
nautilus: error while loading shared libraries: libcroco.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

alright, i made a symlink from the upgraded file to the file nautilus is looking for....

is that a good solution?

it works now... kinda
