Xandros - Windows file permissions

Hi There

First of all i'm very new to these forums and also to linux.

I recently installed Xandros, on half of my existing Windows partition. Once it was all up and running i installed my external USb hard drive so i could view my documents and all my pictures on both Windows and Xandros. It was all working well until i tried to ass a new user on Xandros. Once i did that i was unable to access any of the folders on my external hard drive through windows, the error i get is access denied. I don't know what to do.

Any help would be really appreciated

Thanks

what user were you previously using? it wasnt 'root', was it?
using a console/terminal, 'cd' (change directory) to the subdirectory where your files your trying to access are. For example, say you have mounted your windows partition into the folder /mnt/windows.. then 'cd' into /mnt. from here, do a 'ls' (list) command on that folder to view its permissions to see if the user you are SHOULD have rights to it.
Code:
 ls -l windows/
check out this link to learn about file permissions. after reading that you should be able to determine if your current user should have rights to this folder.
if theres still a problem or you need more help let us know

Yey, sorted

I went into the security settings and changed ownership of the whole drive.

Thanks for the help.
