Xandros v3.xx Business Linksys WUSB54G and WPS54GU2 arnyswart

I recently read a post from arnyswart who successfuly installed the above hardware/software using WineX.

I have no background in Linux but have an ok install of Xandros 3.xx Business on multiboot machine and have been on a slow learning curve. I shall not place any Windows software on these partitions.

Xandros did not have a driver for the Cannon i550 printer so I downloaded a TurboPrint driver which is, it seems, is about 95% compatible on printout.

My ISP is Starband, which is the ONLY psuedo-fast internet service out here in the southern Oregon area known as Merlin. I have successfuly installed the ethernet port on my Asus mobo and use WinProxy on a small "server" computer which ties together a total of 3 machines in the NAT mode for internet service. The three machines do not talk to each other.

The 3 machines use the above Linksys wireless printer devices to share the printer. But no matter what I do, I cannot install them on Xandros. And, of course, Linksys doesn't seem to know anything about Linux.

I downloaded from the Debian site, XWine. I need to know if Xwine is the same as "Wine" and whether it is accessed as a standalone application or whether it is a command line function(?).

If arnyswart reads this post, please drop me a line at plcooper@starband.net.

If any of you can help me on this, I would appreciate it.

Many thanks in advance.

welcome to LQ!!! :) AFAIK what you would need to get the WUSB54G working on the linux box is ndiswrapper and the windows xp drivers, not winex...

Hi win32sux-

Thanks for reply. Well, I do have ndiswrapper with Xandros and I have used it to install the first device, the WUSB54G, which connects to a usb port, but under Xandros, even though it reports that the device is present and actually names it, I cannot get the proper screens with which to enter the relative DNS and IP addresses. I have posted a request with their technical support to delve into this. At first I thought that it was my own fault and that I was missing something obvious, but the only port that is being reported by Xandros in wireless setup is the existing eth0 that goes to my Winproxy machine. (As stated, WinProxy works fine for me and there is no trouble with surfing or e-mail or anything connected to eth0.)

I understand that I must use the NDISwrapper for wireless when attempting to attach wireless devices using hardware designed with firmware and software for Windows, but what about the software driver for the printer server WPS54GU2? Although it is a wireless device, in the Windows setup it is installed after a successful install of the usb WUSB54G. (Which, of course, I have not done yet).

In looking at the install disk for the WPS54GU2, I cannot seem to find a .inf or a .sys file to use in setting that up. Perhaps I am missing something. But first, I need to get a good install of the WUSB54G.

By the way, I go all the way back to CP/M days and have programmed in FORTH for many years. My first DOS computer was the Big Board I in 1982.

Any further ideas about this wireless problem?

Thanks,

Paul (Rusty2)
