Question xampp is not running...!!!

I am using linux-mint 12(64-bit) as my os.I downloaded xampp-linux-1.8.0 and installed using "tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.7.4.tar.gz -C /opt".It was succefully installed, but when I started it....I got "XAMPP is currently only availably as 32 bit application. Please use a 32 bit compatibility library for your system.".....All 32-bit software will be running in both 32-bit and 64-bit OS...but why it is not running....Give me suggestions.....

I don't know the answer to the question but why don't you install apache, php and mysql from the repositories?

I first planned to install those separately but Xammp suits me better as it is integrated each other and has more features...
