X Wont Load!!!!

ok, so i used to red hat 7.2 a looong time ago and then quit...i stopped using linux for some reason - last year i got back into it and was using mandrake 9 and loved it, all my hardware worked with no problems

now its been months since ive touched a distro, im kinda sketchy with the command line and such, and got tossed a copy of slackware 10 so i installed it with the enthusiasm to get back into it, thing is when i installed it and tried to run X, i got a black screen and nothing would happen, but it seemed as if my card was being used the way it hsould be because it was using resolutions (mind you i upgraded my video card since i last used linux), got frustrated and couldnt figure it out so i decided to put mandrake back on and see if that did anything....every setting i tried to test in mandrake failed and im stumped on how i can get X to run...any direciton would be great

im using an egeforce fx 5200

can you print X -probeonly and your X log files. If you're using Slackware you'll need the exact specs on your monitor and graphics card for xf86conifg. If your using mandrake there should be a gui config.

thats the thing, no settings i use will work, ive even used the standard settings with the lowest resolution - i dont think it likes my video card at all

it said something about not loading modules in /usr/src/lib/modules
or something like that - after i installed the nvidia driver i edited xf86config like it told me too, but now this problem arises

what modules is it referring to?

zaicheke 09-16-2004 07:56 PM

could you copy the exact text.
