X Window Sync Setup
I am a total nublar to Linux. I recently attempted to install SuSE Pro 8.2 onto one of my computers. Everything seems to go fine except when I finish the setup and the computer reboots, I get an error message on the LCD monitor (samsung 150mp) saying:
Sync. Out of Range 21.6k / 27 The video is output through ProSavage8 which is integrated into a KM266 chipset on an MSI mobo. So I checked the sync settings in the samsung user guide and the h.sync and v.sync ranges are correct in the xf86config. Dumbfounded, I tried to ctrl-alt-+ to see what happened and low and behold, the second time I do that I get into a HUGE virtual screen. Nonetheless, the 1024x768 setting would not work. I have no idea why my monitor is getting that sync error. Any thoughts? (some help understanding what "21.6k / 27" means would be a good start...I think) (perhaps it's a vid.card issue?) |
Problem Fix to Above
while running XF86config I noticed that the integrated card I was using was not supported by my OS. however, SaX2 neglected to tell me this. the solution:
1) reinstall SuSE 8.2 Pro 2) in YaST (SaX2) remove the ProSavage8 autodetected settings 3) add a new card and select "Unclassified > Graphics" from the menu 4) continue installation for whatever reason, doing the same thing in XF86config did not produce the same result...very odd, but it worked. |
