X suffers "fatal error"

Hello, I have just installed Slackware on my laptop, and whenever I enter the command "startx" it goes though the start up then returns to the text based GUI and says "Fatal Server Error: failed to intilize core devices" I was really wondering what if anyone knows something I could do. I have tried to reinstall multiple times. Also I know it works on my laptop as I have run Slackware on it before. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

hi,
list me the output of /var/log/xfree86.0.log or xorg.0.org.It seems that you are using a notebook, do u use any additional mouse apart from touchpad?By examining the output of above files, you have to rerun the approppriate setup tools.
regards,
Tom.

Thanks

Actually it turns out I was mounting the partition in the wrong location, when I tried /usr/local it worked fine. I had not had a chance to get to the forum to update, my apologies. But if you have some advice on getting a D-Link DWL-G630 to work than that would be awesome :-). Thanks so much for your time, I appreciate your help so much and as soon as I figure out how to use linux I'll be posting help tips too.
Thanks again Tom
Mark

try out ndiswrapper http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net , just read through the wiki and you should be able to understand how to use it.

Also; this could help : http://www.megalinux.net/archives/467.html . Not the same card, but the same chip.
