X-server does not start

I forgot to put my laptop on AC - power and after draining the battery, the computer shut down. When I booted linux again, I was not able to start the X-server. I got the following error message:

Symbol drmCtlUninstHandler from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/i810_drv.o is unresolved!
Symbol drmAgpUnbind from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/i810_drv.o is unresolved!

However surprisingly, I was able to start the X-server as superuser.

What's up with the box?
Any help gratefully accepted and sumptuously appreciated.
Thanks,
Mohan
