Have you tried issuing the startx
command on your own and then seeing if a more verbose error message is generated? Sometimes that'll be enough to point you in the right direction. For example, I recently had a VM which was configured to automatically start X, and suddenly it wouldn't. The errors displayed during the event didn't provide much insight, and neither did a quick glance at the log file. When I did a manual startx
, however, it became evident that the reason it wasn't loading was there was no space left on the drive, so the fix was obvious.
