x server?


How do i install something without the x running?

and how do i restart the x server?

if anyone can answer these questions for me that'd be great

to install, how do you usually start X?

RH9 and im trying to install the new xfree86 along with the new ati linux drivers

I suggest having a look at
man rpm

You're going to need it ;)

To install RPMs.
Code:
rpm -ivh package
To restart the X server while in runlevel 5 (graphical), logout and select "Restart X Server".
Or press the Ctrl + Alt + Backspace keys all at once.
