Question

Well before someone else asks it.

What distro are you using? Mandrake Redhat something. Is this a fresh install or just started on a old install? Are you new to Linux? Give more details for you if you are.

It sounds like you need to configure x. How depends on the distro a bit.

Post back please.

If you cannot see the error [EE] then you'll have to open /var/log/Xfree86.0.log with an editor and look for the error message(s). If you cannot interpret them then post the log and I am sure someone can help.

Post That info helped

You sure do jump in with both feet, huh?

Have you run /usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config yet. That will set up your config file for x. Here's a link to the how to.

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/desktop...tyle=printable

That link is the printable version. That should get you started. Make sure you have all the info on your hardware when you do the config. It asks a lot of questions. Keyboard, monitor resolution, video card and such.

If you have made it this far you should be OK. You have came a long ways. Gentoo is really nice.
