x on dell
 

i can't get x to start at all on my new slack 10.0 install

my computer is a dell dimension 2400 and my monitor is a dell E153FP
(i know, they're nowhere near the best but they were cheap)

i get the folowing errors when i type startx

parse error on line 50 of section monitor in file /ect/x11/xorg.conf
the horizsyinc keyword must be followed by a list of numbers or reanges.
(EE) problem parsing the config file
(EE) error parsing the config file

fatal server error:
no screens found

(some contact information for the X.Org foundation)

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (conection reset by peer) on x server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining

when i try to look at /ect/x11/xorg.conf i get the no such file or directory responce

if someone has seen this any can tell me how to fix it i'd be eternaly gratful

Linux filenames are case sensitive, so /etc/x11/xorg.conf is different to /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Could you post the contents of /etc/X11/xorg.conf, sounds like there's just a typo or something in that file.

As far as I can see, the HorizSync and VertRefresh values are nonsensical. I'd advise you check the monitor manufacture's site for the correct values and edit your xorg.conf accordingly.
