x is borked
I just installed mandrake 8.1 on my spare computer and when I tried to run x it gave me this message:
xauth: creating new authority file /root/.Xauthority xauth: creating new authority file /root/.Xauthority execve failed for /etv/X11/X (errno 2) giving up. xinit : No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error Anyone got any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks in advance!! |
Try logging in as a normal user, somtimes it's impossible to start X as root

It shouldn't be impossible to start X as root, which I wouldn't recommend doing, you should always be a regular user then su to root when necessary. In this case, something is wrong with your configuration of X, I'd start by trying to reconfigure it and see what you can't come up with.

I fixed it. Im pretty sure it was something to do with not having enough space on my hard drive. Its only an 800 meg hard drive (its all I have spare). I made my swap partition a bit smaller and reinstalled. Thanks anyway people
