X GUI won't load
I installed red hat 8 from the Red Hat 8 Bible and it went without a hitch except for one thing. None of the GUI's load. I thought I configured all the settings correctly but I was also told by a friend that red hat 8 had a bug in it that kept it from loading GUI's. Either way can anyone give me some insight as to how to fix this problem? Thanks just for taking the time to read this and kudos to those who can help!

did you type startx at the prompt? did you configure X with XF86Setup?
I did type start X but it gave me a list of errors, and no didn't try xf86setup, will try and let you know thanks!
for startx, it's not spaces or capitals. there are several tools that configure the X windowing system, and xf86config, XF86Setup, Xconfigurator are some. there are many window managers, but they willl create their own configs.
you may not have set a default window manager for typing startx. Type:
echo $WINDOWMANAGER to see if one is set |
thanks for all the help but the problem was a conflict in my video driver and linux.
that's what those X setup tools do. they setup the video and mouse driver and such for X.
