X apps in ssh and vpn through dhcpd
I have a few questions about my new Linux box setup. It is Slackware 9.0 with kernel 2.4.22 installed.
I am able to ssh (Putty) into my box with X-Win32 running, but I am unable to open any X applications (xterm, xmms, netscape, etc.). First it was giving me an error that an X session could not be opened. I then edited /etc/ssh/sshd_config added the line X11Forwarding=yes. It then quit giving me the error, but now it just goes to a blank line after the command and waits, as if it expects the window opened, but no window opens and I have to ^C out of it. Is there another setting I need to change somewhere? I'm confident it's not the ssh client, as I am able to Putty to other Unix machines (on my college campus) and open X applications with no problem. I am using Putty 0.53b and X-Win32 5.1. Also, I have dhcpd set up, and it works great, but those I am serving are unable to open a vpn connection (they are running Windows XP). Is there another setting I need to change there to allow the connection? Thanks, jim A newbie who is trying to learn. |
OK, I was looking through some other posts, and tried typing "export DISPLAY x.x.x.x:0" before I ran konqueror, and it worked. It did give the error "Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display "x.x.x.x:0.0"" four times, then opens konqueror. Is there something I can set somewhere to do this automatically, and what is GLX?
Also, Konqueror runs quite slowly, and putty occationally gives the error: mcop warning: user defined signal handler found for SIG_PIPE, overriding bitBlt: Incompatible destination pixmap Thanks again, jim |
