WWW a protocol?

Hi, I have been playing with etherape and it has WWW as a protocol but there is no information I can find that WWW is actually a protocol. Why is this and how do I find a search term that will return info on WWW as a protocol?

Thanks for your expertise!

I don't use etherape, (although I sometimes use wireshark), but I think that WWW traffic simply refers to traffic on your LAN to/from the internet gateway, as opposed to traffic within your LAN. So, not a protocol a such, but descriptive of the traffic on the network.

So the WWW protocol refers to any non local network traffic and WWW is any protocol used for this purpose? http/tcp is just a form of a WWW protocol?

Edit: If this were true then all of the different protocol packets would add up to the total which would be the WWW protocol.

HTTP is a network protocol, and perhaps considered the primary communication protocol for the WWW, so perhaps they are labelling it as 'WWW' traffic, but not all web-based traffic is necessarily ' HTTP' traffic. So, not clear to me anyway. Maybe you should compare with wireshark identification....
