Wubi won'r run under Vista

Tried to use the most recent version of Wubi to install Ubuntu on a Vista machine. When I try to run the installer I get an error message that says at the top:

Windows - No Disk

Exception Processing Message 0xc0000013 Parameters 0x756A92A0
0x00000004 0x756A92A0 0x756A92A0

Below that are buttons Cancel, Try Again, Continue

Pressing any of the buttons just makes the error message reappear. Cannot get rid of error message using Task Manager. Have to reboot to Vista. I have also tried installing in safe mode.

I have successfully used Wubi to install Ubuntu on XP based computers in the past. Does it not work with Vista? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi, welcome to LQ!

http://wubi-installer.org/faq.php

Search the page for "vista" - it suggests that it
should work (never used it).

Cheers,
Tink

Seems wupi might see open sc/cf/mmc/flash card readers. Remove in usb or might have to open case. I guess it could be a sata adapter deal but most are supported.

I suggest you consider virtual machines if you have a new enough system.

Second best is usb flash drive installs. See www.pendrivelinux.com for many how-to's
$8 for a 1G flash and you can load plenty and not be too worried you will bork your Vista install. Usb flash drive or usb external are good in you be sure that the boot loaders of syslinux are placed on the external drive and bios boot order is set for the usb drive first to prevent overwrite of ms loader.

Don't forget live cd's are pretty good too.
