Scripts is a quite generic term. This ranges from shell scripting (Bash shell, C-Shell, Korn shell) via web scripting like Perl, PHP, Python (these actually also work from a shell) to relatively new languages like Ruby (sometimes on Rails). There are scripting languages that are bound to certain applications, like JavaScript for web browsers or Lingo and MacroMedia/Adobe Director, or bound to operating systems like the old AppleScript for Mac's. And there's Java, which is somewhere inbetween being a full-fledged programming language and a scripting language.
