Workgroup


Hey ! for those using mandrake, where can i change the workgroup name in mandrake or even view it. Some how my other computers cannot see mandrake machine.

Your other computers are Windows, right? You need be running Samba on the mandrake box, which emulates the protocols Windows uses to communicate. The workgroup is specified in the /etc/samba/smb.conf file. If you need help setting up Samba you should post again, and give specific details of what you want to do.

It's easy to get Samba running, but the number of options and settings can be confusing. I'm sure someone can tell you how to do what you want.

FYI
There is a package on Linux Mandrake of setup wizards that isn't installed by default. In the Mandrake Control Center, Select Add Software, and search for the string 'wiz' and you should find it. Installing this software adds a 'SERVERS' section to the Mandrake Control Center. There is also a program called webmin that you may have installed. If the webmin service is installed and running, you can reach it using you browser and going to http://localuser.localdomain:10000
