I have just installed Mandrake 9.1 for the first time and i dont know what i have done wrong. It comes up with the screen that asks wether i want to boot linux, failsafe or floppy whatever i select it says loading Linux (failsafe) ....... then hangs. Im stumped. please help me
Have you tried to boot under failsafe? Give that a try. But I think for some reason your kernel didn't install correctly. Try booting off of a boot disk (if you have one). If not, re-insert the Mandrake boot CD, and type rescue and the boot prompt. Follow the instructions on how to rescue your system.
Hey linuxbotx thanks for your help so far. i tryed to re-install several times and it continues with the same problem?????? any other sugestions? im really stuck
Hmmm... I don't think that its the kernel, because it doesn't even reach the init part. You know, i really don't know what to tell you. Have you tried the 9.2 distro? Its not available for ISO yet, but you could do an FTP install. But I'm not really sure why its not booting. Could be a lilo problem. You're not getting any errors what so ever? Maybe you should try a differen't distro. Give SuSE a shot. I would have also recommended redhat, but redhat is no longer supporting Linux on the desktop.
Hi again i tryed to have a shot at SuSe last night but i can not for the life of me fugure out how to do a ftp install. no im not getting any error messages at all it just seems as if it doesnt know what to do next and stops. i have a AMD Duron 600, vodoo 3 2000 video card, sound blaster live sound card and a WD 10G drive. As far at the file system goes i just let the delete everything on the disk and re partition whatever it wanted.
Hummm I had a problem liek this a while ago with mandrake I managed to trace the problem down my old vodoo 1 2mb card of course soon after wards the motherboard gave in so I never worked out what the diffculty with the card was but in my case all I got after the loli was a black screen.
Hey thaks heaps everyone for trying but i managed to get it to work about 1 hr ago when i removed the TV card. not too sure why but i think it was just too many resources being used.
