Wondering of a good distro for old pc
 

I have jus started learning about linux in school so im new to it. I have an old box here that was given to me the other day and was wanting to put linux on it, but im not sure wut distro i can use considering the limited hd space and ram.

Specs:
Packard Bell
Intel Pentium Processor 120mz
1.0 gb hd
8megs of ram

I have been searching a little bit but dont really know wut im looking for exactly.

Well i run gnu/debian on a 130mhz (no x server though - stricly commandline since it is/will be a server).

You might consider, damm small linux.

ok i copied the ide.dsk low mem file to the first floppy, then the root.gz to the second. I created my partitions also. As the setup executes it says im missin the delibase.tgz and exits installation. The instructions dont say nething about writing this file to nething. Any suggestions?

You will need more RAM to run x-servers like gnome or KDE.
You can get old ram like that very cheap. Try e-bay or a computer surplus or look for another box to strip.
32 megs is about right for most distros. You can choose a lighter window manager like fvwm.
There are all kinds of packages or programs you do not need to install, this will save disk space.
You can also run linux from the cd-rom.
I like Slackware myself and I have run it on all kinds of old systems, but version 4.0 and higher need more RAM.
Slack has good control over what packages you install.
