Won't Boot

I just installed Mandrake 8.0 on my old computer. The first time I booted it up it ran and i was happy. However, I had to turn it off to move it into a different room. When i tried to boot it up again, it didn't. It had the message loading Linux for over 24 hours. So I decided to take the hard drive out and try it in my other computer and it worked. When I put it back into the computer I want Linux to be on, it never booted and is still sitting there now. Why won't it boot and what can i do to make it boot?

it sounds like it could be a broblem with the comps MB boot settings, i am running Slackware and i have to hit F8 every time i boot because of the same type of problem. (F8 goes into the boot menu, i ust the boot floppy slack. was nice enouf to make for me :) )

I had a similar problem and I had to edit the file /boot/grub/menu.lst as follows:

add "apm=off" to the line that load the kernal

kernal (hd0, 4)/boot/vmlinuz root=dev/hda5 devf0=mount apm=off

To do this I had to reinstall and add the line as an additional kernal start up parameter because I to am a newbie and no-one could tell me a different way.

Your Battery may be dead also and bios goes back to default everytime you reboot.
