how can I play mpg and wmv files from the internet?

osor 03-29-2008 02:08 PM

mplayer .

And mplayerplug-in. You may want to remove the totem plug-in first.

mplayer

ok not sure what mplayer is. when I try to play a video kaffene pops up and says it can't play it. I have totem but can't figure out how to utilize it for the online stuff. now if I have to install mplayer I'll need some explicite instructions. I'm real new to this.

What Linux distro are you using?

rexrugby 03-29-2008 04:21 PM

distro

fedora 7 . hopefully this is new enough version

matthewg42 03-29-2008 05:03 PM

Bare in mind that some wmv files are DRM-crippled. These files won't work under Linux.

here is the link for fedora 6: http://mplayerplug-in.sourceforge.net/download.php

I don't know if it will work for 7. You can try this: http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...group_id=71239

suppose to platform independent.

reddazz 04-12-2008 12:46 PM

The following should work for Fedora
Code:

#rpm -Uvh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-7.rpm
#yum -y install mplayer mplayerplug-in mplayer-gui mplayer-fonts
