wmv file downloads as .wvx

I am very new to Linux and everything I read says the android OS is based on Linux. That said I am evaluating 2 Android tablets. The Samsung Galaxy and the Motorola Xoom. I am trying to execute wmv files in a web browser, the wmv files download as .wvx rather than play. I have installed flash but the problem continues. Any help out there..

.wvx is basically a pointer/shortcut to the actual .wmv file.

A search of the Android Market for wmv player show theses:

https://market.android.com/search?q=wmv+player&c=apps

I haven't used any of these so can't comment on how well any of them work.
