WLAN in Sarge = MADWiFi ? . . .

My System:
Sarge w/ 2.6 kernel
Intel Desktop (Pentium MMX 233/66) 256Mb RAM

My Background:
I'm brand new to Linux, period.

My Problem:
I have a wireless network that I set up with very little knowledge. I'm trying to learn as much as I can as I run into hurdles. Right now, my hurdle is adding my Linux box to the network via a D-Link DWL-G520M wireless card (physically installed, but not recognized by the system) that I recently purchased.
My first attempt at seeing this work was a complete re-install of Sarge once I got the card in. I can't remember where I learned it, but I typed:

dmesg | grep eth

at the command line (or something VERY close to it, please forgive me), and found only that the other ethernet card I have in there (Realtek something) is recognized, not the D-Link.
I think I've found a good resource for the driver that I may need. I'm not sure if I actually need it though. I've been scouring through MADWiFi.org, and honestly most of the vocab is over my head at this point, that's why I'm posting this here- hoping for some laymanese (please).
At any rate, I came across this line:
Quote:

MadWifi is work in progress and currently there is no production release available yet. This doesn't mean that you can't use the driver - but you will probably need a little knowledge about getting source via Subversion, compiling kernel and drivers, and similar stuff...
but I have NO knowledge of any of those things, so I know I'm in need of assistance.
I want my Linux machine to recognize/use the card...I'll be doing much more once I can acces my LAN, but for now- how do I proceed?

Goto the Linux HCL (Hardware Compatiablity List) here at linuxquestions.org. It is at the top and or over at the side.

Well, thanks for the tip...I'm not really trying to find out if my card is Linux compatible. The information on MADWiFi already confirmed that the card can be used with Debian.

Also, this card is not one of those listed in the reviews in the HCL...if I've overlooked something, please let me know. I'd like to get this done soon if possible.

Any more ideas?

Ray
