Wireless with Suse 9.1 and Netgear WG311T
Hi,
I've installed Suse 9.1 on a dual boot with Windoze 98. All is fine except for the network. I've got a Netgear WG311T wireless card - with Atheros chipset (the same as ACX100 ?). It works fine with Windows, but not so fine with Linux. I can ping any LAN address (access point, router, other PC's) but no WAN addresses - I then get the 'network is unreachable' message. I've followed the instructions relating to Wirelss LAN cards in the release notes and installed the 3 firmware files in usr/lib/hotplug/firmware and renamed them. I've also got a 3Com NIC which was working OK with both OS's, but that now also fails with Linux. I physically removed it as a diagnostic to test the wireless card (that's what I really want to use) but never got it back again after reinstalling it. The network service fails to initiate at boot. I also get confirmation of network as a failed service at level 5 on shutdown. The box is a freebie, just to play with, test etc. It's a Celeron 566Mhz, 128Mb RAM, 10GB disk I've got some instructions about the madwifi drivers using a command cvs. I know nothing about cvs, but presume that I need an internet connection (hence the 3Com card) to access them. Absolutely cluless newbie - just in case you can't tell. Any ideas? All done ! Sorted - both the 3Com and the Netgear card seem fine now. Simply needed to add the Default Gateway in YAST - apologies to all for missing the elementary. |
Hmmm,
I've never used any wireless devices with my Dell c640, so I can't help. I would suggest using YAST to try and re-setup your LAN stuff though. Renaming things probably nerfed some things... |
cyfiddler - thanks for taking the time to edit your post to tell us things were sorted. I'm about to buy one of those cards and you had me panicking there!
