Wireless will not work no matter what I try. Broadcom 4311 Acer travelmate 5320

I am completely 100% new to Linux in every way. I thought it would be much simpler than this.

I just changed to Ubuntu 12.04 from Windows XP Pro. Everything seems to be working properly, however I am completely able to get a wireless connection to work, only a wired connection.

I'm on an Acer Travelmate 5320 with a Broadcom 4311 ethernet adaper.

I have been searching through forums on what to do to fix it, however there have been errors not covered there, and I think at one point I blocked something from working in favour of another driver that didn't work and then tried installing the original again and it wouldn't work.

I don't even know where to start to fix this problem.

you realize there is the open source driver and the broadcom driver. By dfault ubuntu uses the open source driver. I never had great luck with that driver.
Ubuntu has a bunch of tutorials how to use the broadcom driver. and how to load the firmware for it. But that is ubuntu way. I just use the linux way for that
driver. here is the ubuntu way http://askubuntu.com/questions/55868...rivers-bcm43xx need third party repos.

since the driver been in the kernel two of them. for 6 years here is how you do it the linux way http://bcm43xx.berlios.de/ you have to load the firmware.

I had a broadcom once and after that made sure never got another. But dell loves there broadcom.
ask your self why this is a pain. well not the driver or the firm ware is the problem it is the licences on how you extract the firmware. thank M$ for that.
This is a good one for ubuntu also.https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wi...er/bcm43xxwell

Second one didn't work

I tried that second link, found it somewhere else. Wouldn't work for me. Just let me try it again and find the exact place where it didn't work.

right, here it is

It was when I got to the section asking me to open a file then check if it was blacklisted, edit it, then save and reboot. I did that, but it still shows up as blacklisted, just shows up an extra time with the # in front

:~$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/* | egrep 'bcm'
# blacklist bcm43xx
blacklist bcm43xx

Another fix

Another fix had this come up

backstagepass@moreofatvthanacomputer:~$ sudo modprobe -r b43 ssb wl
[sudo] password for backstagepass:
FATAL: Module ssb is in use.
backstagepass@moreofatvthanacomputer:~$ sudo ifconfig ethl up
ethl: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
backstagepass@moreofatvthanacomputer:~$ sudo ifconfig eth1 up
eth1: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
backstagepass@moreofatvthanacomputer:~$

Also, it says that I have the broadcom STA driver active but not in use in additional drivers.
