I've just bought a new laptop and installed mint 18 xfce 64bit.
The problem is wireless. I type in the security key and i can't
any further than this. Any help would be great

Hi...

Thank you. Could you also include the results of...

Code:
dmesg | grep -iC 3 "phy0"
This might give us a bit more detail. Also, you forgot to post the results for lsmod. Please use code tags with the actual results.

Regards...

You run the command in terminal, select relevant part with mouse, paste with middle button, like this (and use code tags):
Code:
03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 [8086:4238] (rev 35)
        Subsystem: Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 3x3 AGN [8086:1111]
        Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi
        Kernel modules: iwlwifi
