Wireless-G connect: dumb it down advice needed
 

I spent the better part of the day yesterday downloading and installing red hat 9 (shrike?) on a rarely used computer. I'm somewhat wowed by getting so much for free, but I'm still not convinced this is for me. I think I'm a relatively smart guy, but it seems like I can't figure out even the simplest tasks.

I'm not looking to do anything too complicated, just set up a simple personal desktop mainly for my son to waste time on myspace.

I'd like to install a wireless-G usb adapter, but I've got little idea what to do since the install disk won't run. I've done searches and found info on ndiswrapper, but I can't figure out what to do next. There seems to be good info on (I guess) writing a couple lines of code to add the drivers, but I don't have a clue how to do this.

Where and how do I install whatever it is I need to write and or install? Can I do this without developing a second career in linux operations? Is it time to give up and go back to (gasp) windows?

Is there a particular reason why you're going with RedHat 9 instead of RH Fedora 4? If not, you may just want to get Fedora 4 instead, from here: http://fedora.redhat.com/download/ -- when your main concern is USB and wireless stuff, and ease of use, I would think your best bet is to go with the latest releases.

Either way, you'll need to give some more information about your wireless device. Who makes it, the model number, etc.

I'm not about to discourage you. But maybe it's better for you if you know what you are dealing with. Here is an article. If you still want to mess with Linux - you are welcome.
